Duane Merrill & Co. are Vermont’s leading appraisers. We have worked with museums, institutions, and private collectors. We offer a variety of appraisal services for our clients to suit their individual needs.
If you are considering selling an item and would like a verbal assessment of its value we are happy to do this at no charge. Our staff will examine your things and offer auction estimates and advice. For smaller objects, we are available at our gallery in Williston, VT Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 4:00pm (A phone call ahead of time is advised).
For larger items or whole estates, we will gladly travel to your location at no cost. If you have questions about your antiques, or would like to send photos for our consideration, we are also available by email at info@merrillsauction.com.
For clients requiring a written appraisal for insurance, estate division, fair market value, or tax purposes, we charge $125 per hour with a one hour minimum. We charge travel time one way for this. Our qualified appraiser will carefully examine your items and prepare a report listing the items to be covered. Current wait times following an appraisal are 3-6 weeks unless prior arrangements are made.

Merrill's Auctions has been
commissioned to sell an important Winslow Homer (1836- 1910) oil on board
“Woodcutters- Maine” signed and dated 1888, descending in the family of Harry
Evert Waldron (1883-1975), who purchased the painting in the 1920's. He was an
executive of the Scheaffer Pen Company and husband of the company's founder.
Also included in this sale are important antiques & art descending in a
turn-of-the-century 5th Avenue, New York City Doctor's family, a
neat group of Folk Art descending in an early New York City family, a
significant jewelry collection, as well as antique furniture, artwork, silver,
glass, china, Oriental rugs & carpets, & collectible antiques from
other area homes.
